Dry Skin

 

Inactive or underactive sebaceous glands result in dry skin type. Its uncomfortable dryness, itchiness and flaky nature could be a cause for concern for most people with this skin type. dry skin in most cases is easily sensitized which makes managing a dry skin a bit challenging.

To effectively manage or treat a dry skin it is very important to ascertain the cause. Skin dryness could be hereditary, or as a result of a lifestyle choice, the use of inappropriate cosmetic products and weather change.

While there might be no permanent treatment to dry skin especially when it is hereditary. However, it could be managed by following these simple steps:

LIFESTYLE

  • Avoid soaking in a tub or taking long hot showers; this strip the skin off its natural oil and further dries and dehydrates the skin.
  • Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids; foods like salmon fish in your diet gives omega-3 which is high in essential fatty acids that the skin needs.
  • Avoid extreme weather condition: either in extreme or cold weather Seek products using liposome technology (that delivers active ingredients deep into the skin) that provide phospholipids and can restore hydration level within a short period.

 

Use of Appropriate Skin Care Product

  • Regular cleansing with cleansing milk, cream, cleanser or cleansing goat milk.
  • Toning morning and night with desensitizing hydrolat containing no alcohol.
  • As the epidermis is very thin, use a mild enzyme exfoliator or an effective AHA product to remove scaliness, flakiness and smooth the skin.
  • Use a hydrating mask containing liposomes and hydrating active ingredients.
  • Moisturize with a high concentration of sealants like silicone and an SPF 15 sunblock or sunscreen to keep the skin soft and supple.
  • Use night products that are rich in unsaturated fatty acids like avocado oil, jojoba oil and are deeply nourishing. Make sure you protect yourself appropriately.
  • Avoid wearing itchy fabrics like wool next to the skin instead wear natural fabrics like silk and cotton which will allow the skin to breathe.

Also, replace heaters and air conditioners with humidifiers, this would add moisture to the skin.
